Abstract:
Gully erosion is one of the types of water erosion that is exacerbated by various factors, leading to noticeable changes in the landscape, retreat, and destruction of agricultural and residential lands as well as environmental degradation. The diversity and intensity of various factors affecting the formation and expansion of gullies cause differences in their type and impact from one location to another. The study area of this paper is the PirSahraab region in the northwest of Chabahar County, which is significantly affected by the expansion of gullies. This paper utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methods, employing census data and structured interviews to examine the role of gullies in the destruction and evacuation of villages in this area. The results indicate that the creation and expansion of gullies over time have led to the loss of infrastructure (such as roads, energy, and water transmission lines), agricultural lands, destruction of residential homes, and increased insecurity, as well as the intensification of other related natural and human hazards in certain villages. This has resulted in the destruction and evacuation of some remote villages located along the gullies.
